Lot description
Oil and gold leaf on board.
In a catalog of the artist we find published the exact sketch he made of this work, which in turn would be preparatory for one of the 9 murals that decorated Mr. Joshua S. Cosden's Music Room in his Palm Beach mansion. These murals, allegedly commissioned by King Alfonso XIII to the artist, were acquired by Cosden's wife during the trip she made through Europe in search of works of art to decorate the 73 rooms of the house.
All 9 murals are currently at the Detroit Institute of Art.
