Lot description

Signed on the front, as well as on the back, where the author provides the technical data.
150 x 139.5 cm (unframed).
Abdias Ngatheu creates artwork in which he reflects on contemporary society. In his "Taxi Motorcycles" series, Abdias creates scenes from the everyday life of Cameroonians. His paintings are an allegory of the urban disorder generated by the overloaded motorcycle cabs called "Bend-Skin", which are well known in Cameroon. Ngatheu's work is distinguished by his unique and personal way of "animalizing" his objects, depicting human bodies with funny animal heads. Ngatheu explains, "If I depict people like this, it is because of their way of life, their inhumane behavior towards others. I paint a disproportionate society where the abnormal becomes the norm."
