Lot description
Oil on canvas.
The work has been relined.
The canvas has been restored and the pictorial layer has been treated.
On the reverse, there are names written both on the stretcher and on the canvas (Frankhals), where an anagram and the number 13 can also be seen.
This portrait is a clear example of one of the most outstanding genres developed during the Golden Age of Dutch painting, which emphasised the detailed realism and the treatment of light. Artists such as Rembrandt, Hals and Vermeer were masters of portraiture.
