Attached is a photograph of the model (26.4 x 21 cm total poster board), which was the basis for this oil portrait. On the reverse, the model is identified and it is indicated that it was taken on 5 December 1927 at his home in Calle Pau Claris in Barcelona.
Miquel Bayona Durán (Sabadell, 1874 - Barcelona, 1932) was a prominent art collector of the first third of the 20th century. Self-taught, he progressed socially and professionally, from his first job at the age of 12 as a bellboy in Banca Marsans, until becoming a banker and shareholder in the same institution. With a restless and cosmopolitan spirit, he travelled all over Europe and practised various sports (such as cycling, boxing, fencing and stick defence). In his day, his great love for art was well known, especially among art galleries in Barcelona. Another portrait of this model as a young man, painted by Eduard Flo, is offered in this auction.
